First Visit at Wilshire Smile Studio

Welcome to Wilshire Smile Studio!

First visits are always the most comprehensive of appointments.

We take our time in making sure that we don’t miss anything to come up with a treatment plan that will get you to your best and brightest smile.

We will make sure that your appointment will be comfortable and stress-free.

Office-Tour

What to expect during your first dental appointment?

We welcome you with open arms! Of course, we will ask you for your full health history.

Our waiting room will be as calm as possible, you will be greeted by our friendly staff who will get you started on your paperwork.

Thank you for coming in 15 minutes early to complete your paperwork. We would really appreciate your mentioning any medications you are taking including allergies to pain medication and antibiotics.

You will meet with Dr. Elyassi and his team to talk about your medical history. If you have any oral health worries or fears, we appreciate and encourage you to ask questions. Let Dr. Elyassi and his team know at the time of your dental exam your past experiences and work that you have had done.

Initial comprehensive exam & X-rays

Before we examine your teeth, gums, and mouth, we will be taking x-rays and/or panoramic radiographs.

X-rays is a great tool to diagnose problems otherwise unnoticed, such as damage to jawbones, impacted teeth, abscesses, cysts or tumors, and decay between the teeth.

Panoramic radiographs

These radiographs help your dentist view un-erupted or impacted teeth, as well as sinus conditions; and detect lesions or fractures in the jaw. If you are a candidate for implants and major restorations, this will be our map of the structures around the areas that we will be working on.

This initial comprehensive exam

After taking x-rays we will begin to take a good look at what, if any decay and  concerns that we need to address. Your examination will include perio (gum) probing and oral cancer detection. It’s extremely important to get ahead of any problems that we can arrest before it becomes life-threatening.

A Full Dental Examination

During your first appointment, you can be sure that our dentist will perform a thorough examination of your teeth and make sure that you have no cavities or decay. We will use an instrument that will get between the grooves of your teeth to detect any soft enamel and the beginning of any problems.

Periodontal Probing

We will be doing probing your gums to measure any pockets between your teeth and gums to detect any possibility of periodontal disease. This probing instrument has millimeter measurements that will measure the pockets between your gum and teeth. You can be sure that our team will be thorough and comprehensive in getting to every nook and cranny.

Will I receive a professional Cleaning during my initial appointment?

You may or may not receive a cleaning at your first appointment:  If we find that you need more than just prophylaxis (general cleaning and polishing) we need to address any gum problems that will threaten any of the future treatments. We need to have a solid foundation for the support of your teeth. This may require more than one or two appointments to get your gums in good shape.

A Thorough Cleaning

If we find that you have plaque and tartar around your teeth and below your gum line, our dental hygienist or dentist will scale along and below the gum line to remove built-up plaque and tartar that can cause gum disease. This will ensure that we have a clean and clear way to great oral hygiene.

How Long Should I go Between Visits?

After we have made sure that you are in good oral health and your teeth and gums are in good shape, you probably won’t need to return for three to six months.

If you have work to be done, a plan for all your treatment will determine how many appointments and how long between appointments you will need. We will make sure that you fully understand the importance of timing and how long all your restorations will take. We will make an appointment before you leave the office. And don’t forget to ask our team any questions you may have —this is your chance to get the answers you need.

Once again, Welcome to your dental family!
