You are now wondering what types of sedation we have to offer:
Oral sedation is a mild dose of benzodiazepine which targets fear and anxiety centers of the brain, inducing relaxation. You are able to walk into our office, sit in our dental chair and relax during your procedure. We call that the “I don’t care pill”. Patients with mild anxieties and can go through the appointment without panic find this the perfect remedy for their fears. A driver is strongly recommended.
We also have a stronger dosage of sedation medication that will actually induce drowsiness and sleep. You will definitely need to have a driver for this appointment. The medication is taken a few hours before the appointment and you will need to have someone guide you through our doors.
Drinking alcohol and taking depressants while you’re on these meds will cause your blood pressure to drop and could cause decrease your breathing. You need to breathe to keep alive during these procedures. So drinking and taking drugs is forbidden.
Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) is offered in our office. You will be breathing through a mask inserted into a tank of Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen during your appointment. When the procedure is complete, you will be put on pure oxygen until you feel steady on your feet.
IV Sedation is the ultimate in stress-reducing options. This medication is administered through an insert intravenous drip. You will need someone to be with you and wait for you in our waiting room during these procedures. The IV sedation is used for long procedures and is only used as a last resort.
