What sleep apnea?
The reason why you are awake is that you need oxygen and you are not getting it. Your body is telling you to wake up and breath. There are times when you snore it’s because of stress, allergies or a common cold, you will get over that when the environmental influence has passed. But if you are constantly tired and grouchy during the day, it’s time to think about what you are doing at night. We cannot diagnose ourselves when it comes to medical and physical problems. We have to call on professionals to do sleep studies and blood tests on us to get to the point of understanding what is really going on.
Once you are diagnosed and the problem is pinpointed, we can now go forward in dealing with the treatment. Some of us have to wear the cumbersome CPAP appliance. Hooked up to tubes and machine, we wear a mask at night to get oxygen to our brain. Some of us do great with the CPAP machine but some of us cannot tolerate the mask on their face. There is another appliance that we can wear to open up our airway. It is called Sleep Apnea Appliance,(it’s the best name we can come up with).
The appliance is customized for you in the office. We take an impression of your teeth and our skilled laboratory takes over and builds your appliance to fit your jaw. Depending on your sleep apnea situation, the appliance will have wires to hold your mouth in a specific position. You will start sleeping much better, have more energy and will go through the day without feeling that you are in a fog. Your lifestyle will have more pep and you will feel that you have full control of your day.
Of course, the first step to any change is to visit our office to have a sleep study done and from there, Wilshire Smile Studio will construct the appliance that will help you in getting a good night sleep. If you have been or need a diagnosis for Sleep Apnea, please let us discuss it with you during your next appointment.
